Team Hasty – Full Team Safely Back in the States

May 1st, 2007 by Team Member

We ran into a little issue on the 29th while traveling.  Brad Gaines passport was left on the tram between terminal A and B.  We had a very tight layover coming home from Frankfurt to Chicago.  Unfortunately by the time his personal items were returned to him by the airlines, the plane had taxied from the gate.  Prior to the team boarding the plane we assured he had located his items and gave him sufficient cash to stay in Frankfurt and travel on the 30th.

He too was back in the States in Chicago the next day (30th) and took the 6:00PM flight back home to Nashville.

Remember also that Bill Carden is on an extended tour of calling this week and next.  So pray for he and Yuri this week and then the next full Team Rex the following.

We thank eveyone for lifting the team up in prayer while away and thank the Lord for being called and the privilidge to serve his Kingdom.

Till we blog again :)

I was handed this electronic gizmo on Sunday as the guys were getting ready to leave. It took two of us to pry it loose from Jim. I think through it he was holding hands with his true love. Since leaving the airport we went to what we would call a flea market about the size of the ones at the fairgrounds. Yuri calls this one the automobile parts store. There are many booths and each has a speciality. It might be lubricating oils, body parts, suspension, motor parts, etc. Yuri purchased wheel bearings for the rear of his car. We then went back to his 9th floor apt and climbed up. Elevator is out of order. I had some guy approach me at the auto market and start asking me directions in Ukrainian. Yuri said he thought I was Ukrainian since I had not shaved since arriving in country. When I asked him how long we would be at the apt before I needed top gather my stuff, he replied, “long enough to shave”. I took the “hint” and as he says “now look American”. We returned to his country house where his 80 year old dad lives along with a small horse size doberman pincher. After going over some changes to the mission house plan Yuri left this morning to get the bearings installed. I will work on the drawings and try to get the Yuri stamp of approval tonight. The plans for the rest of the week include a visit to see Pastor Sergei. We worked on his house last spring. Also, Vitally has requested that I spend a couple of days with him. He is supposed to come up and we will ride a bus back to his place I think I am about to run out of coffee, so I will stop now and go in the kitchen to warm some water. Got to uphold the legacy
Keep us and Team #2 in your prayers.
Bill

Day of Rest – Tourist Day in Kiev

April 28th, 2007 by Team Member

We arrived at Kiev around 8:20 this morning and headed to breakfast @ Arizona BBQ. They cater to the American palate as the menu was in English. Eggs, Sausage, Beacon and Pancakes.

We split up into 3 appartments – Yuri and Bill – Jerry, Brad and Michael – Ty, Ed and Jim. We rested and showered and headed out @ 1:00pm to the orphanage.

Great visit to the orphanage. Kids were excited and very open to being loved on today. We started by playing soccer and moved to basket ball with some of the boys while Jerry used his talent of making baloon animals. Then we broke out the bouncy balls and Chocolate. Big Hit!!

We were blessed to have spent 2hrs with the kids. Matthew 18:3-5

Yuri took us to a late lunch @ UNO pizza one of his favorite restaurants in Kiev followed by sight seeing. We are planning on shopping for our loved ones in the morning.

We went to a Memorial Park called Motherland which pays tribute to Ukrainians who lost their lives in World War II. The Motherland statue is similar to Lady Liberty. There were tanks and planes and other military equipment on display.

We are turning in early in preparation for tomorrow’s travel.

Work Day – 5 and Return Travel Day – 1

April 27th, 2007 by Team Member

Up and @ um 0800 to the site. On the way we stoped at the market and purchased some gifts for Anna and Anna for a devotion during lunch.

Ira and Violetta prepared breakfast for us this morning. One addition to our menu was a chocolate breakfast desert. Very tasty.

Brad Gaines requested a repeat performance of dumplins and got um!!! After lunch, we presented our gifts and Ty blessed them with the love of Jesus Christ. We will have fond memories of Anna and Anna to last our life times.

We finished the interior wall today and completed most of the window framing. She looks like a home coming together folks. One of the things that is hard to do is leave work undone. We had peace in what we accomplished to honor the Lord on his time table. We also pray for his Will and blessings for the next team that follows.

This mission trip and the relationships that have come from it have been very Spiritually Refreshing. Proverbs 11:25.

To highlight one of the many gifts the Lord provided as we labored, we felt it fitting to share some nick names acquired on the job.

Boss aka Ty Hasty brought compassion, experience and leadership through Christ. From toting, to mudding and placing, to sawing block he showed us the way to “Get’er Done.”

The Crack Man aka Jerry Young – He can make a finished line of mortar look smooth as silk.

Bouche’ aka Jim Mayes was part of the Mud Boys responsible for making the mortar “just in time.” Vladamere the other brother of the duo. Their motto …. If it’s not there on time then you don’t pay a dime.

Pack Mule aka Brad Gains – Able to lift our sizeable blocks overhead with ease and enthuisiam…WOW!!.

Cornbread aka Michael Walters stepped up to the task at hand from toting, to mudding, to placing to building scaffolding and when the dinner bell rang the race was on.

Legal Constituent aka guess… Ed Hadley. From drafting docoments to counter the City Architechure Deptment’s findings to confirming our safety rules and regulations were up to snuff and oh yeah, the man can step up and tote and finish some block. He did find one safety violation in inadequate equipment. Vladamere was in desparate need of some boots and he and Michael bought him some.

Last but not least Mr. Coffee aka Bill Carden. He did not have a Coffee “IV” drip but you could have fooled us. An endearing character trait Bill posesses is a willingness to share his opinion and direction. We all know he is a softy deep down and appreciate his sense of urgency.

We left the hotel @ 6:00pm by bus. Oleg, Violetta, Vladamere and Sergei joined us for the 2hr trip back to the train station. We shared more pictures and music from our iPods. The River “Caught up in You” went over well. Specifically trac 8 “Leave it all Behind.”

Final emotional goodbyes and we boarded the train back to Kiev via a 12hr trip.

till tomorrow……
