Ophanages Day 3

June 10th, 2007 by Team Member

Our apologies for the time in between blog entries. The service for internet has been spotty on the ship.

Our next day of orphanages was in Kherson. We visited two orphanages, and two HopeHouse families between 4:00 and 9:00pm. It was intense trying to get everything done. But thanks to God’s provision we were able to actually sit down with the Hopehouse families at a local church and break bread with them. They provided us small sandwiches, cucumbers, tomatoes and cookies. We were exhausted, but filled with joy at the end of the day.

The first orphanage was a whirlwind visit, but there were many connections with the kids and team members. It was mostly older kids (10-15) and we had fun. The chicken dance always gets the kids smiling (and anything Kevin does).

The second orphanage was very pretty and it was actually right on the Dnieper River. These children were much younger (3-9). This orphanage was for children who had potential for getting TB and were receiving preventative treatments.

The entire team is working together to be the hands and feet of Christ with each doing as they are gifted from God. A special thanks to Chad and Wendy Webb for managing all of the duffles, and for all of their late nights sorting socks! Nancy, Jill, Danielle, Ellen, Olivia, Hope, Mandy, Debbie, Lynn, Amy and Katie all helped with the socks, and we (and the children) really appreciate the work on this!

Sorry for the lack of posts, we’ll try to catch up on this today.

    Dear Dawn,
You guys have to be near total exhaustion from the pace you are
keeping, but I’m sure that you wouldn’t have it any other way!! It’ll probably take you a day or two to rebound after you get home, but I can hardly wait to hear from you whenever you emerge from your “coma”!!Ha! I just know that there will be many, many beautiful stories that you were such a big part of! I pray that God will wrap you all in His arms as you leave there because I know that will be the hardest part of the mission. May you have a safe and restful journey home!
    Love,
    Linda

    Hi Amy,

I think it is funny that you have to take “vacation” time from work to go on this trip. It sounds like one great “vacation”. Nonetheless, I am sure you will come back with more memories and having seen more of how God can work in the toughest of situations than any vacation on which you have been before (with the possible exception of those “Oh why oh why oh why-o, do we always go to Ohio?” trips of your childhood). Anyway, I can’t believe I get to talk to you tomorrow (and even see you over skype)….and see you for real next weekend. I’m counting down the minutes. In the mean time, make the most of your last 24 hours. I admire you and respect your choice to go to Ukraine. I love you and will see you soon.
    Ty

Andrew beat me to the punch with the Doobie Brothers comment…although I was going to be on tour with Sting and Aerosmith. I really don’t like name dropping like him though :) We are thinking of you all and praying for you several times a day. Alex “got his hit back” in baseball and got the game ball last week after hitting 2 doubles. We are in the tournament now and Alex is hitting great and playing great defense. We miss you and love reading about the work God is doing through you all. Keep it up! All of our love!

    Wendi,

1 day left until you will be home. I can’t wait! Of course I am glad for everyone to get home safely but I am a bit biased toward seeing you. I know it has been an amazing trip, one filled with a lot of great experiences and I will look forward to spending Tuesday with you just hearing all about it. Not sure if I will comment again, so if not I love you and come home safely!

I talked with Cissy today (Sunday) to tell her about your typed directions I had forgotten to show her. I also told her how to get to the airport. However, she is expecting a call from you when you get to NY. The kiddos are doing fine.

Elle! Wow — sounds like you’ve had a whirlwind couple of days. Hope you’re feeling the Lord’s strength and power through you in spite of any exhaustion you might be feeling. I’m dying to know: have you seen Katia? We are so excited for you to come home, but realize you’ll need time to process all you’ve seen and done. Trusting the Lord for safe travels for you and the group. I’m sure you can’t believe this long-awaited trip is winding down.I praise the Lord for your willingness to serve Him, Elle; I’m sure you were used in a powerful way! Love you much — Madre

  18. Lesley Says:

    Hi Nancy,

Wow, you have been a busy gal! Sorting those socks were a breeze for you, I’m sure, after all the practice you get at home with the boys. Went to watch them play in their tournaments on Friday night and both Sean and Michael were awesome! After those ended (Sean won, Michael lost – but I know Bubba told you already) we went to the house and I cooked everyone some hotdogs Aunt Lesley style. Aka, boiled. We had fun teasing Krysta about boys over some pudding for dessert (Dan is the newest fyi). Sure wish you were there with us but I know you are following your heart. I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly! We’ll catch up when you get back.

    Love you bunches,
    Lesley
