Orphanages Day 2 (Sevastopil)

Posted on June 7, 2007

Today we went to 2 orphanages in Sevastopil. Both of them were ones we visited last year. The children at both orphanages remembered the ones of us who went last year.

At the first orphanage we were met with the sounds of a brass band playing. The band was made up of some of the older boys from the orphanage. They played their music for us before we began our music. Ellen Martin quickly re-connected with a boy she met last year, Dima. He was smitten with her, and they had fun remembering last year. After we finished the program the director of the orphanage invited us into his office for a reception. They offered us refreshments and then they gave us gifts made by orphan children. This was the first time that any HopeHouse group had been offered a banquet like this in 15 years. We ended our time there by giving the orphanage the gift of lights for the rooms (they call them chandeliers) and lace for the childrens windows.

During our visit in the orphanage director’s office he talked to all of us and he basically said that he could tell from our smiles and our actions that we had the love of God in us and a love for these children. He also professed his love for the same God. Even with the language barrier he saw the love in our hearts! Praise God!

    Danielle, Joel, and friends,

Wow … I got goosebumps reading your latest entry. Our God is so awesome and you all are so awesome to be His touch, His smile, His affirmation of love — so tangible and pure. Thank you for serving Him. Isn’t it awesome how when we give of ourselves in Him, He gives back to us one hundredfold? I give Him praise today and know that He will continue to bless your trip and bring you home safely. Mom forwarded your email and I just got the biggest smile reading your words, hearing your inflections, knowing that you both are safe and happy and growing. Pretty cool stuff, guys. Thanks for allowing me to be part of it. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOX Aunt Jean

    Hi Amy,
I love reading these updates. Even though they only come out once a day, I check every 20 minutes to see if there is a new one. With you in Ukraine, me in Wisconsin, Trevor (the cat) in Tennessee, and our empty apartment in North Carolina, I’m not sure where we are from anywhere. People here keep asking me where I am from and my answer is “that’s complicated”. I am so glad that you are over there and I konw that you are doing God’s work. I can’t wait to talk to you again when you return. I look forward to hearing all your stories. Make sure you write everything down so that I don’t miss a thing.
    Love you sweetie.

    Wendi,

I am so thankful that your time in Sevastopil was good. What an amazing story and it is probably times like this that you realize you are being blessed more by the people you are trying to bless. God is good in this manner. I have been thinking about you a lot and received some pictures from Zoya of your visit the other day. It looks like it was a lot of fun. I am anxious to here more from you when you get back. I am praying for the whole team for continued safety, strength, both physically and emotionally, and that God will cover you with His love and his heart. You know a quote that came to mind today is from the founder of World Vision and it is, “Let my Heart be broken by the things that break God’s heart” What you all are doing is exactly that. You are caring for those in need and you are burdened by an overwhelming sense of compassion for kids and people who ache the heart of God. I am so proud of all of you and I anxiously await the next update. I too check it a thousand times a day. Wendi I love you…
    Justin.

We are doing fine. I am trying my best to get Julie out and about. Man, she is a home-body. She just wants to hang at home all the time.
You are always on our minds and in our prayers. We can’t wait to see pictures and here the stories. We love you two bunches!!!!!!

So happy to hear the latest, and to know that you guys are being so warmly received!! I know that has to be a great feeling!! Of course, I’m not surprised! After all, I have no doubt that God will continue to pour out His blessings on everyone who is involved in this work!! It’s hard to say who is receiving the greatest blessing — the orphans, or those of you who are there to minister to them, huh? It’s probably a toss-up!!

Good morning…………everyone at the Bible study says “hi” and (believing in the power of prayer, as they do) all promised to add theirs to the host of others who are keeping the team lifted up. So many people are so interested and excited about the concept of Hope House when I explain why you are gone and what it is that you are doing. This is a special time even for those of us back here that are blessed by y’all’s courage and willingness.

Hope you see some other emails from those I told the procedure to. Enjoy another strong day of letting God work through you.

If you go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, you wil return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with you. (Ps. 126:3, 5-6) The God of all grace, who called you to eternal Glory in Christ, will restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast after you have suffered a little while. I encourage you to continue to pray for blessings, salvation prayers and healings as God’s hand moves in mighty ways. Anticipate the move of God. Through God, all things are possible! Jilly,

Safe in your newest port I hope…………safely to Chicago and soundchecked over here. Have a few hours back at the hotel to clean up and look back over the music some more. Phone is very nearby just in case you gave that a shot. If no contact possible I still want you to know how captivated I have been to be on your prayer team back here. This has been a rich time of interceding and surprisingly full of new insights for me about how great a thing God did when He put us together. Can’t wait to see that face of yours……………….I love you, Ter

Hey Nancy!!! I just got back from FL. Can’t wait to see all the pictures and her about all the details. (not from your blackberry). We have been praying. I would just ramdomly pick up your sheet and see where you were and pray about whatever you guys were doing at that time. Let’s having a slide, picture, swim party and have a big prayer about the specfics that are needed. Anytime after FBA. You jet lag should be better by then. Love you, Andrea

HaHa I figured out how to do a blog!! Miracles do happen.

    Hi Suzy Goodman
I told Candice and the children about the fact that you haven’t been experiencing any pain. They were excited to know that God had answered their prayers for you.
I talked to Stas about your trip and he said to wish you the best.
I”m excited about getting you back and hearing all the details of your trip. I pray that God brings you back to me safely.
    I love you.

Our Mission

HopeHouse International exists so that Orphans in Ukraine can become adopted by Christian couples within their country. Adequate housing is a barrier for most citizens, and it is a government prerequisite for adoption. HopeHouse International enables adoptions by addressing adequate housing needs which result in three or more children being given a family and a future.
